The British Asian Christian Association (BACA) has stood beside Shabir Masih through unimaginable tragedy. In 2021, Shabir lost his wife Yasmin Bibi and son Usman Masih, who were brutally murdered by an intolerant Muslim neighbour (click here). The brutal attack left his two granddaughters, Gul Janat and Asma, without parents, and plunged Shabir into a deep well of grief.

We are pleased to share a heartwarming up date to the story of Mr. Shabir Masih, who has finally found relief from months of debilitating pain following a successful inguinal hernia surgery—made possible through the timely intervention and support of the British Asian Christian Association (BACA).

On the evening of May 20th, BACA’s dedicated team escorted Shabir Masih to Civil Hospital Wazirabad, as per medical advice to arrive a day prior to the scheduled procedure. The next day, May 21st, he underwent a successful surgical operation that removed the painful hernia that had been troubling him for over six months.

Speaking from his hospital bed with a sense of relief and gratitude, Shabir shared:

“I have been suffering for the last six to seven months, but now doctors have told me that there’s nothing to worry about and I am alright.
BACA has been helping me for the last six years, always supporting me and standing with me. This operation happened because of BACA.”

A Journey of Patience, Perseverance, and Care

Shabir first approached BACA in March 2025, explaining his prolonged suffering due to an enlarged hernia located between his inner thighs. Responding with urgency and care, BACA dispatched a team to his village and arranged for a medical evaluation. Though a surgery date was initially offered for late March, Shabir opted to postpone in order to spend Easter with his family in Gujrat—a moment of joy he didn’t want to miss.

The BACA team revisited Shabir on April 14th for a follow-up, after which his surgery was rescheduled for May 2nd. Unfortunately, on the day of the procedure, he was found suffering from a severe cough. Doctors advised postponing the surgery until he recovered fully.

On May 15th, Shabir contacted our operations manager with the good news that his health had improved. BACA quickly arranged another visit to the hospital, and doctors confirmed a final surgery date for May 21st.

Accompanied by his caring relatives—nephew Suleman Masih (26), and nieces Muskan Bibi and Saika Bibi—Shabir successfully underwent surgery. Today, he is on the road to full recovery and, most importantly, free from pain.

Gratitude from the Family

Shabir’s nephew, Sardar Masih, also extended his heartfelt thanks:

“We are happy that this operation became a reality because of BACA. God bless BACA.”

Shabir himself added with a smile:

“I was in terrible pain, but now I am relieved of it.”

Continuing Our Mission

At BACA, we remain committed to providing not just medical aid but also emotional and financial support to those in need. Stories like Shabir’s are reminders of how impactful timely intervention and community care can be. We thank all our donors and supporters who make such life-changing work possible.

If you’d like to support more individuals like Shabir, please consider donating to BACA (here). Together, we can continue to bring healing and hope.

Juliet Chowdhry, Trustee at BACA, shared:

“It’s heartwarming to see Shabir Masih surrounded by the love and care of his nieces and their children during such a critical time. With his grandchildren now living far away, their presence brings comfort and companionship during his recovery.

Though BACA was able to achieve a measure of justice through the courts with the conviction of Mr. Dogar—the man who brutally took the lives of Shabir Masih’s wife and son—no legal outcome can ever truly heal the depth of that loss. In losing his son, Shabir not only lost a beloved family member but also the financial security and daily support that a primary breadwinner provides. While he remains a part of his two granddaughters’ lives, their physical distance makes those connections harder to maintain, adding to the quiet isolation of his grief.

In the aftermath of such a devastating loss, Shabir has become dependent on the assistance of BACA and the generosity of our donors for his most basic needs, including healthcare. His resilience in the face of tragedy inspires us, and we remain committed to walking alongside him as he continues to rebuild his life. We thank every supporter whose compassion makes this possible.”
