{"id":171,"date":"2019-07-22T12:41:29","date_gmt":"2019-07-22T11:41:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.britishasianchristians.org\/full-previous-archive\/2019\/07\/22\/launch-of-the-final-report-of-fco-support-for-persecuted-christians\/"},"modified":"2023-04-30T05:25:18","modified_gmt":"2023-04-30T04:25:18","slug":"launch-of-the-final-report-of-fco-support-for-persecuted-christians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishasianchristians.org\/full-previous-archive\/launch-of-the-final-report-of-fco-support-for-persecuted-christians\/","title":{"rendered":"Launch of the final report of FCO support for persecuted Christians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>British Asian Christian Association were invited to the exclusive launch of the final report by Bishop of Truro, The Rt Revd Philip Mounstephen on support<br \/>\n    for persecuted Christians.&nbsp; The report which was commissioned by Jeremy HuntSecretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs was the first<br \/>\n    ever undertaking of global Christian persecution and BACA were privileged to have been invited to contribute written and oral evidence to the review<br \/>\n    committee.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The findings of the report have been quite positive and we have shared previously a short analysis on the impact the report could have on Pakistan<br \/>\n    with some further recommendations <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.britishpakistanichristians.org\/blog\/global-persecution-review\">(here)<\/a>.<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The launch was held on&nbsp;Monday 15th July 2019 from 09:30 \u2013 11:00 at&nbsp;Church House, Westminster Assembley Hall and was presided over by the<br \/>\n    Bishop of Truro himself and Lord Ahmad, the Prime Minister\u2019s Special Envoy on Freedom of Religion or Belief, who BPCA met earlier in the year when<br \/>\n    seeking asylum for Asia Bibi in the UK <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britishpakistanichristians.org\/BlogRetrieve.aspx?PostID=807835&amp;A=SearchResult&amp;SearchID=1480997&amp;ObjectID=807835&amp;ObjectType=55\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\">(click here)<\/a><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In his introduction to the report, Anglican Bishop Philip Mounstephen of Turo stresses that Christian persecution has become a \u201cglobal phenomenon,\u201d<br \/>\n    and charged that Western governments \u201chave been blind to the issue.\u201d The prelate argued that the persecution of Christians is a violation of universal<br \/>\n    human rights.<\/p>\n<p>The report notes that \u201cit is estimated that one third of the world\u2019s population suffers from religious persecution in some form, with Christians being<br \/>\n    the most persecuted group.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among other recommendations, the 176-page report calls on the British government to use its position as a Member of the UN Security Council to push<br \/>\n    for a UN Security Council resolution urging governments in the Middle East and North Africa to protect Christians and other minorities.<\/p>\n<p>Due to an award ceremony for Hannah Chowdhry one of our volunteers who was presented with a Diana Award none of our trustees could make the event.&nbsp;<br \/>\n    However we sent our new temporary employee Sofia Chowdhry (16 yrs) who attended the event and recorded some of the presentation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You can hear what was recorded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=a4gfdMH4XxY\">(here)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/trurolaunch.jpg\"><\/strong><br \/>\n    <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>British Asian Christian Association were invited to the exclusive launch of the final report by Bishop of Truro, The Rt Revd Philip Mounstephen on support for persecuted Christians.&nbsp; The report which was commissioned by Jeremy HuntSecretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs was the first ever undertaking of global Christian persecution and BACA were [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":1345,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-171","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorised"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.7 -
