{"id":234,"date":"2019-01-18T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-01-18T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.britishasianchristians.org\/full-previous-archive\/2019\/01\/18\/atrocities-against-christians-are-not-new-to-tamil-nadu\/"},"modified":"2023-04-30T05:25:52","modified_gmt":"2023-04-30T04:25:52","slug":"atrocities-against-christians-are-not-new-to-tamil-nadu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishasianchristians.org\/full-previous-archive\/atrocities-against-christians-are-not-new-to-tamil-nadu\/","title":{"rendered":"Atrocities against Christians are not new to Tamil Nadu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><strong>Atrocities not new to Kanyakumari a small district in Tamil Nadu where a pastor and his congregants were attacked recently while conducting evangelism&nbsp;     <\/strong><br \/>\n    <br \/> <em><\/p>\n<p>Submitted by our BPCA India correspondent 15\/1\/2018<\/em><\/p>\n<p> Kanyakumari a small district in Tamil Nadu witnessed a brutal attack on a pastor and his church members when they went to visit a village in Perumalselvavillai<br \/>\n    in Agatheswaram taluk for there regular outreach in the area.<\/p>\n<p>On 13<sup>th<\/sup> January 2019&nbsp;Pastor Selvakumar a pastor of the Full Gospel Pentecost church along with his six member team&nbsp; were engaged<br \/>\n    in distribution of an outreach tract in the village.&nbsp; At around 5:30 pm they were mobbed by a group of religious fundamentalists well known in<br \/>\n    the village .<\/p>\n<p>The mob shouted abuse at the pastor and his team, and in a show of contempt the radical Hindu men forcefully applied ash to the foreheads of the Christian<br \/>\n    workers as a mark of Hindu identity &#8211; against their wills.<\/p>\n<p>The attackers scuffled with members of the ministry team and tore their clothes badly. They continued with a profanity-filled rant and threats against<br \/>\n    the pastor and members of his ministry team, for proclaiming the name of Jesus.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A member of the ministry team called the nearest police station and an FIR \u2013 First Information Report on the incident was lodged with the local Patti<br \/>\n    police station, who came to the rescue of the beleaguered Christian group.<\/p>\n<p>The pastor&#8217;s wife is shaken over this whole incident and has requested prayer for the safety and protection of the lives of Christians across the district.<\/p>\n<p>This area has already seen an increasing number of hostile situations arise against Christians in recent years and local law and order has severely<br \/>\n    diminished under the weight of Hindu nationalism. The widespread violence and mounting threats to both Christians and Christian ministries means the<br \/>\n    the quality of life for Christians and their morale has reached its lowest ebb.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>British Asian Christian Association, continues to provide advocacy and humanitarian aid to Christians in Pakistan and India and the Pak\/Indo-Christian diaspora.
