{"id":46,"date":"2021-02-18T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-02-18T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.britishasianchristians.org\/full-previous-archive\/2021\/02\/18\/safe-house-move-brings-solace-to-family-of-girl-raped-at-6-years-of-age\/"},"modified":"2023-04-30T05:23:11","modified_gmt":"2023-04-30T04:23:11","slug":"safe-house-move-brings-solace-to-family-of-girl-raped-at-6-years-of-age","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishasianchristians.org\/full-previous-archive\/safe-house-move-brings-solace-to-family-of-girl-raped-at-6-years-of-age\/","title":{"rendered":"Safe house move brings solace to family of girl raped at 6 years of age"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a Christian girl of only six years was beaten and raped after being forcibly taken to the home of a Muslim man in broad daylight in September 2019,<br \/>\n    BACA stepped in to help- <strong>read more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britishpakistanichristians.org\/BlogRetrieve.aspx?PostID=816922&amp;A=SearchResult&amp;SearchID=1766073&amp;ObjectID=816922&amp;ObjectType=55\">(here)<\/a><\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We provided a solicitor and began the legal procedure to get justice, however the perpetrator Mr and his cohorts began&nbsp; threatening the Christian<br \/>\n    parents with violence,&nbsp; the rape of Tabitha and their other daughters and financial ruin if they proceeded with a legal case against paedophile<br \/>\n    Muhammad Waqas (18 yrs).&nbsp; The threats heightened after the rapist was bailed despite clear evidence of his crime.<\/p>\n<p>As a precaution BACA in October 2020, provided the family with the keys to a home far from where they lived before.&nbsp; We caught up with family<br \/>\n    to see how the move was for them.&nbsp; The parents have advised us that both of them have been able to find local work and that all the children are<br \/>\n    back at school after having been forced to stay away for fear of kidnap or worse. Father of Tabitha, Munir Masih, said:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(79, 129, 189);\">&#8220;A local wealthy landlord Ali, who is friends with [Mr Waqas] knocked at my brothers house and threatened violence towards his family unless he disclosed our whereabouts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(79, 129, 189);\">\u201cWhen he explained he never knew our current address the small gang began to shout abuse at him and used derogatory language to insult Tabitha and my family.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(79, 129, 189);\">&#8220;So far they have not been attacked but we all fear for them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(79, 129, 189);\">He added:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(79, 129, 189);\">&#8220;For over a year Tabitha (now 7 yrs) and her sisters had to forgo school.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(79, 129, 189);\">&#8220;Our daughters had been prevented from playing with their friends on the streets and had been too fearful to do so anyway<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(79, 129, 189);\">&#8220;Moving to the safe house has helped our family recover from the fear of going out. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(79, 129, 189);\">&#8220;Tabita is now eagerly attending school as are her sisters though hours are much reduced [children go to school every second day] due to the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(79, 129, 189);\">&#8220;My wife and I have also been able find work and we hope to use the money we save on paying rent to relocate here permanently.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p> Tabitha, said:<\/p>\n<p> <span style=\"color: rgb(79, 129, 189);\">\u201cI am happy. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(79, 129, 189);\">I am really enjoying school and hope one day to be a doctor\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Time line of Tabitha&#8217;s case:<\/p>\n<p><strong>14th November 2020:&nbsp; <\/strong>Witness statements were to be recorded at Lahore High Court but Magistrate was on holiday<\/p>\n<p><strong>25<\/strong><sup style=\"font-weight: bold;\">th<\/sup><strong>&nbsp;November 2020:&nbsp;<\/strong> Court hearing adjourned due to lawyers elections<br \/>\n    in the courts of Punjab.<\/p>\n<p><strong>9<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;December 2020:<\/strong>&nbsp; Postponement due to Covid-19 pandemic lockdown.<\/p>\n<p><strong>17<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;December 2020:<\/strong> Chief Justice of Hight Court, Mr. Qasim Khan ordered the cancelation of all court listings for<br \/>\n    two weeks, owing to the rising cases of Coronavirus in the country.<\/p>\n<p>On each of the above hearings witnesses Akram Bali, James Masih and Munir Masih took time of work to join Advocate Sumaira Hussain.&nbsp; The delays<br \/>\n    made all three men very despondent. Statements were however taken on 18th January 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Sumera Hussain, BACA funded legal counsel for Tabitha, said:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(79, 129, 189);\">\u201cStatements were finally taken on18th January the statements.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Tabitha Masih and Munir Masih recorded their accounts at Lahore High Court<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(79, 129, 189);\">&#8220;Their statements are very damning and should result in the conviction of sexual predator Muhammad Waqas<\/span><br \/>\n    <br \/>\n    <a><br \/>\n        <br \/> <\/a>During the same court session Waqas was also present before the court. Judge Muhammad Iftikhar, called Muhammad Waqas to remove the mask from<br \/>\n    his face so he was visible.<\/p>\n<p>On Tabita\u2019s turn Judge Iftikhar called her close to his bench and asked the name of her father which she told. He asked her<\/p>\n<p>Tabita narrated her capture by Waqas and the later sexual molestation, there was no witness protection service provided despite her vulnerability.<\/p>\n<p> After this there were three further adjournments on 23<sup>rd<\/sup>&nbsp;January and the rescheduled date on 6<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;February and a further<br \/>\n    reschedule for 18th February 2020.
