width: 700px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.britishasianchristians.org\/full-previous-archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Aftab.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Pakistani prison officials released a statement confirming the death by hanging of a Christian man Aftab Bahadur on &nbsp;Wednesday (10th June 2015). &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Despite insistence by lawyers of his innocence and attempts to bring a reprieve by Catholic Bishop of Karachi Joseph Coutts and Bishop of Rochester, Salvatore Ronald Montano, the death sentence was allowed to continue.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px; font-family: arial;\">Mr Bahadur was only 15 years old at the time of the murder and had spent 23 years in jail, before he was hanged at Kot Lakhput Jail in Lahore. &nbsp;He claimed that he had been tortured to confess to the killings of Sabiha Bari and her two sons in 1992.<\/span><span style=\"padding: 0px; margin: 0px; -webkit-transition: all 0.3s ease 0s; transition: all 0.3s ease 0s; line-height: normal; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><br style=\"padding: 0px; margin: 0px; transition: all 0.3s ease 0s; -webkit-transition: all 0.3s ease 0s;\" \/><br \/>\n<\/span><br \/>\nThe legal team supporting Aftab Bahadur and his family were putting together evidence, which included a retraction statement from the key witness in the case, Ghulam Mustafa, who explained how he had been tortured into implicating Aftab Bahadur. &nbsp;Mr Mustafa even went as far as stating that Aftab Bahadur was not even at the scene of the crime at the time of the incident. &nbsp;Despite the legal team stating they only needed a few days to put together the evidence needed to exonerate Mr Bahadu,r the courts refused the appeal and ratified the hanging.<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; line-height: normal; color: #000000; padding: 0px; margin-top: 1em; margin-bottom: 1em; -webkit-transition: all 0.3s ease 0s; transition: all 0.3s ease 0s;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">On Thursday the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights issued&nbsp;<a style=\"padding: 0px; margin: 0px; transition-duration: 0.3s; -webkit-transition-duration: 0.3s; transition-timing-function: ease; -webkit-transition-timing-function: ease; transition-delay: 0s; -webkit-transition-delay: 0s; color: #000000;\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/EN\/NewsEvents\/Pages\/DisplayNews.aspx?NewsID=16068&amp;LangID=E\" rel=\"noopener\">a statement<\/a>&nbsp;condemning the fact that Pakistan has executed over 150 people in just six months.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; line-height: normal; padding: 0px; margin-top: 1em; margin-bottom: 1em; -webkit-transition: all 0.3s ease 0s; transition: all 0.3s ease 0s;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"color: #0070c0;\">&#8220;Pakistan has gone from zero to 154 executions in just six months, making it the third most prolific executioner in the world,&#8221;<\/span> Zeid Ra&#8217;ad Al Hussein, the U.N. high commissioner for human rights, said in the statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: normal; font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">Wilson Chowdhry Chairmand of the BPCA, said:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"line-height: normal; font-size: 16px; color: #548dd4;\"><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0070c0;\">&#8220;It is believed that 66% of Pakistan&#8217;s prisoners are innocent. &nbsp;Based on this fact alone justification for a death penalty is on a low footing.
