The British Asian Christian Association has installed a washroom facility for the Christian and Hindu communities of Saif Ul Mari, Sindh, following the installation of a water pump last year. This new washroom facility, now available right at their doorstep, will significantly reduce waterborne and water-related health risks for the community members. Additionally, we are providing toothbrushes, toothpaste, and soaps, while also educating the community on the importance and benefits of improved hygiene.

The washrooms also help restore dignity to both women and men, who will no longer need to bathe in rivers and streams. Instead, they now have access to a safe, private toilet, reducing the risks of abductions and sexual violence that often occur when people are forced to use fields or open areas. This facility not only improves hygiene but also enhances the safety and well-being of the community.

On 27th January, the British Asian Christian Association (BACA) built a much-needed washroom facility for the Christian and Hindu communities of Saif Ul Mari, Sindh. The community has expressed their heartfelt gratitude for this vital facility, which has relieved them of the ongoing struggle and fear of not having access to a safe washroom at their doorstep.

Following the provision of clean drinking water in November last year, BACA’s latest effort in Saif Ul Mari, a remote settlement in Mirpur Khas, has brought significant improvements to the community’s daily life. The new washroom facility, designed for both men and women, has ensured the safety of women and children who previously had to venture into the isolated sugarcane and banana fields to relieve themselves.

Revo Masih shared, “It was okay during the daytime, but at night it was fearful and unsafe, especially for the women, to go out into the large crops.” He added, “The washroom facility provided by BACA has ensured the safety of women and relieved our worries regarding sanitation.”

The concerns of the community reached us through our volunteer, Evangelist Parbhu Das, who highlighted the grave risks faced by women and children when they had to travel to the lonely fields nearby to relieve themselves. These fields were not only unsafe due to wild animals, snakes, and insect bites, but they also posed a significant threat to women, who were vulnerable to sexual assault in these isolated areas.

Moved by the plight of the women and children in Saif ul Mari, BACA took immediate action and decided to build a safe washroom facility. Completed on 27th January 2025, this new facility, now conveniently located at their doorstep, has greatly uplifted the community and will contribute to better health and sanitation, particularly for women and children. BACA strongly believes this improvement will help reduce the risk of diseases such as diarrhea, dehydration, dysentery, typhoid fever, and hepatitis A, benefiting the entire community.

The community has expressed deep gratitude for the facility. Parbhu Das shared, “We pray for BACA’s donors, who help people in real need. We pray for more blessings on them, so that BACA can continue to uplift communities like ours.”

We were first introduced to the community of Saif Ul Mari by Pastor Mehboob Ellahi of Praise and Power Ministry, based in Newport, Wales. When he learned of the completion of our recent project, he expressed his gratitude, saying:

“Praise God! This is wonderful news. We are so grateful that the washroom has now been installed. This will bring safety, dignity, and much-needed relief to the community. A special thanks to Juliet Chowdhry for your dedication and support in making this possible. Your efforts have truly been a blessing, and the people here will always remember your kindness.”

Reverend Ellahi later wrote an email to Juliet, expressing further thanks and highlighting another urgent need:

“Dear Sister Juliet,

Greetings in the precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for the support BACA has already provided to this community. The recent installation of the washroom has been a great blessing, bringing safety and dignity to the families living there.

As our team prepares for a medical camp at Pastor Prabhu Das’s house, we have identified another urgent need—a washroom facility at this community. The lack of proper sanitation remains a challenge, and having a washroom there would not only benefit the community but also serve those who come for medical care and gatherings.

By God’s grace, I will be visiting Pastor Prabhu Das after April this year, and it would be a great blessing if we could complete this essential facility before then. I humbly appeal to BACA once again to support this need so that we can continue serving this community effectively.

Thank you for your love, prayers, and continued generosity. May God bless you abundantly for all that you do.

In Christ,
Pastor Mehboob”

In response to this appeal, BACA is exploring the possibility of supporting the installation of a second washroom facility at this location. The cost of installing a water pump at the new site is £600, while the washroom facility itself will cost £2,500. We have launched an appeal to raise the necessary funds to start and complete this important project. You can help us make this a reality by donating (here)

Juliet Chowdhry, Trustee for the British Asian Christian Association, said: “At BACA, we are committed to empowering communities by providing them with the essential resources that restore dignity, safety, and hope. Each project we undertake is a step toward improving lives and creating lasting change for those in need. Whether it’s providing access to clean water, building safe sanitation facilities, or supporting vulnerable families, our mission is to create an environment where individuals can thrive. We believe that no community should be left behind, and through the generous support of donors, we can continue to make a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most.”
