Children of all diversities have been busily creating Easter hats and banners to brighten up Redbridge Easter Parade which returns to the borough this Easter Monday.

The workshops were held at Clementswood Community Centre over the half term holidays and continue to run every Saturday till 11th March 2017. The sessions included short bible passage readings, to ensure participating children understood the true meaning of Easter. The bible accounts helped children to focus designs appropriate to the Christian celebration of the resurrection of Christ, as opposed to more commercial aspects of modern day festivities.
Children utilized recycled material, colouring Pen and paints, crepe paper, paint and other materials to create some wonderful banners with authentic Easter messages and Images. The cross was a very common theme an image which is the most universal image linked to Christianity.
Children also learnt how to make musical instruments from empty bottles and plastic cups by filling them with beans and pulses.
Children will display their artwork and musical instruments at the Easter parade itself which will be held on 17th April 2017. The parade will start at 2pm and will enter the town centre at 3pm. A musical festival put on by local churches and established Christian artists will take place on the town hall steps all day form 1pm – 5pm.
The event which brings churches from across the borough together, aims to unite the many different denominations on one of the key celebrations in the Christian faith. Participating Churches include Anglicans, Baptists, Pentecostals, Seventh Day Adventists and many others.
However the great thing about this event is that the whole borough is invited to join the biggest party on the streets of Redbridge!
Wilson Chowdhry, Chairman of British Pakistani Christian Association, said:
“Our classes were well attended and had a mixture of children from wide ranging diversities, including Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims. We intentionally made our event inclusive as God’s love is for all the bible tells us this.
“All the participating children have agreed to join us at the Easter Parade and we believe the creations they have made will catch the eye of our borough’s residents. Anyone who does not make it to Ilford Town Centre on Easter Monday will miss a very lively market and entertaining concert.
