A remote Christian and Hindu community in Jarawater, Sindh, lived for years without clean water.

Women and children walked long distances to collect contaminated canal water, leading to sickness and daily hardship.

BACA has now installed a water pump, bringing safe drinking water to their doorstep.

The community is asking for help again—this time, to build a much-needed washroom.

Last month, the British Asian Christian Association (BACA) received a plea for urgent help from the impoverished Christian and Hindu families living in Jarawater, Sindh. The request—relayed by BACA volunteer Evangelist Daniyal—was simple but critical: the community desperately needed a water pump and a basic washroom.

During his visit, Daniyal witnessed firsthand the severe hardships endured by residents in their pursuit of water—an essential human right that had been denied to them for years. With no access to clean drinking water, families were forced to rely on a contaminated canal that runs near their village. Women and children walked long, unsafe distances through thick bushes, returning with heavy pots balanced on their heads and shoulders.

The canal water, visibly polluted and unfit for consumption, caused repeated stomach illnesses and waterborne diseases. Despite this, the community had no alternative. Their meagre wages from labouring in banana and cotton fields left them unable to afford better options. (Read more here)

BACA Acts: Clean Water at Their Doorstep

On 26th November, BACA installed a new water pump inside the village—bringing safe, accessible, and clean drinking water directly to the community for the very first time.

The impact has been immediate and life-changing. Children no longer risk dangerous journeys, women are spared hours of exhausting labour, and the entire community now has freedom from disease-causing water sources. Clean water has given them back time, safety, and dignity.

Voices of the Community

Nuri Bibi, a resident of Jarawater, expressed deep gratitude:

“We no longer have to travel long distances alone to fetch water for our families. The new pump now provides clean, safe drinking water for our whole community. We are deeply grateful to BACA and to the donors whose kindness made this possible. We pray that God blesses you and that BACA continues helping poor communities like ours.”

“The taste of clean water is very sweet. Thank you, BACA, and thank you to all the donors who gave us this blessing.”

For families long deprived of something so basic, the arrival of clean water feels nothing short of a blessing.

Clean water at last: a villager fills her container from the community’s new pump.

Juliet Chowdhry, Trustee of the British Asian Christian Association:

“It’s heartbreaking that families in Jarawater lived so long without something as basic as clean water. Thanks to our kind donors, we’ve been able to make a real difference—bringing safety, dignity, and relief to this community. We’re grateful for everyone who helped make this possible, and we’re now hoping to build a washroom so the women and children here no longer have to put themselves at risk.”

Restoring Dignity: A Washroom Is Next

After celebrating the installation of the pump, Nuri shared another urgent concern—the lack of a washroom.
Women currently have no choice but to use open fields, where they face danger, harassment, and humiliation. Field owners often chase them away, further stripping them of dignity.

BACA has committed to building a washroom next, ensuring safety, privacy, and respect for the women of the community.

Help Us Build a Washroom and Restore Dignity to the Women of Jarawater

Now that clean water flows, we must urgently provide a safe and dignified washroom for the Christian and Hindu women of the community. Every day, these women face the fear and humiliation of going to the fields, risking their safety just to meet basic needs. Together, we can change that. The cost to build this life-changing facility is just £2,000.
