Atrocities not new to Kanyakumari a small district in Tamil Nadu where a pastor and his congregants were attacked recently while conducting evangelism

Kanyakumari a small district in Tamil Nadu witnessed a brutal attack on a pastor and his church members when they went to visit a village in Perumalselvavillai
in Agatheswaram taluk for there regular outreach in the area.
On 13th January 2019 Pastor Selvakumar a pastor of the Full Gospel Pentecost church along with his six member team were engaged
in distribution of an outreach tract in the village. At around 5:30 pm they were mobbed by a group of religious fundamentalists well known in
the village .
The mob shouted abuse at the pastor and his team, and in a show of contempt the radical Hindu men forcefully applied ash to the foreheads of the Christian
workers as a mark of Hindu identity – against their wills.
The attackers scuffled with members of the ministry team and tore their clothes badly. They continued with a profanity-filled rant and threats against
the pastor and members of his ministry team, for proclaiming the name of Jesus.
A member of the ministry team called the nearest police station and an FIR – First Information Report on the incident was lodged with the local Patti
police station, who came to the rescue of the beleaguered Christian group.
The pastor’s wife is shaken over this whole incident and has requested prayer for the safety and protection of the lives of Christians across the district.
This area has already seen an increasing number of hostile situations arise against Christians in recent years and local law and order has severely
diminished under the weight of Hindu nationalism. The widespread violence and mounting threats to both Christians and Christian ministries means the
the quality of life for Christians and their morale has reached its lowest ebb.
