Leighton Medley our BPCA Outreach Minister has returned to Pakistan to reach new communities with the true Gospel of Christ and to continue discipling those who have been already been reached through our previous campaigns.
Leighton’s remit for this work is quite simple, he is to bolster the faith of Christians who have little access to regular church services setting up bible study leaders who will one day become ministers of the Gospel in rural communities, he is to bring revival and better understanding to larger Christian churches in Pakistan many of which have adopted a very legalistic theology and have forgotten the need for repentance, faith in Christ and the need to place our trust in Him.
Leighton has also been reaching out to Muslims and we hope that soon his work will provide a dividend by bringing others to the family of God.
He has been having great success with many believers expressing revival, churchgoers committing their lives to Christ, and Muslims taking an interest in the Gospel though yet to commit to Christ. We hope with further donations to make Leighton’s role a permanent one in a years time. For this we will need the help and support of those who was to see Christ’s gospel flourishing in Pakistan and seek you help to finance this important ministry. Below is one of Leighton’s recent accounts during a BACA’s trip to Pakistan Bible Society, Lahore on 12th February 2020:
On the 12th February, we visited the Pakistan Bible Society in Lahore. This important building, has been in its current location since 1863, that is
157 years this year. For Christianity in Pakistan, this is a hugely significant place and it is no surprise in this current climate, that there is
an armed sentry on the door every time you enter.
There has been a Bible Society presence in this area since 1807, largely thanks to the work of missionaries sent from the UK. In 2013, they celebrated
the 150th anniversary of being in Anarkali, by opening a special bible museum, which records the history of the Bible from ancient times until the
modern era. There is also now a model of the history of Jerusalem in Jesus’ time, plus detailed biographies of famous missionaries such as Henry Martyn
(1781-1812) and William Carey (1761-1834). It was Martyn, that translated the first New Testament in Hindustani, now Urdu, and the first ever Persian
New Testament, risking his life in the process, having to flee from the Mohammedan scholars who wanted to burn it. Both these men made huge sacrifices,
in order to make sure the Word of God remained in this land. Why am I writing this, well there are still huge sacrifices being made by people today,
in order that the Bible may still be read in this country.
The BACA is one such organisation, which seeks to reach those areas in Pakistan, where the Bible is not read, or where Christians are largely illiterate
or only a few can read. We need the Pakistan Bible Society today, as we hope to get the Word of God out to more areas that need it. So let us pray
for it’s continued success, they are not just helping people in Pakistan, but are assisting in sending out Bibles all over Asia and beyond. It is a
good Christian success story in Pakistan and there aren’t many of those that we get to hear about these days. The Pakistan Bible Society, has always
been ready to assist the BACA in its work, and is always there should we need them. Every year BACA use your donations to print at least 500 bible
