Pakistani Christian campaigner receives Anonymous threat!

In the wake of the double suicide bombings in Lahore, a Facebook persona claiming to be acting on behalf of the anarchist hackers group Anonymous placed a threatening post on a major Pakistani Christian Facebook community making false moral equivalence between the Taliban-terrorist group that has claimed responsibility for the bombings on the church services and the Pakistani Christian community as a whole, in a strategy that mirrors the tactics of extremist Muslim groups in Pakistan.

Wilson Chowdhry, chairman of the British Pakistani Christian Association, who lost at least one family member in the attacks, said that one of the group’s trustees alerted him to the post this morning.  It was posted from the profile of someone called Ghoxt Khalil whose Facebook profile identifies him as ‘Anon Ghost’.  An identical personal message appeared in the groups inbox.

‘This post shows false moral equivalence that is typical of the extremist mindset in Pakistan, and unfortunately in much of the politically correct Western liberal elite’ Chowdhry said.  ‘Like all other Pakistani Christian leaders we are aware of, we condemn the killing of two men who may or may not have been accomplices of the suicide bombers.  It is in direct opposition to the teachings of Jesus, but it does highlight the incredible helplessness, hopelessness of the Christians in Pakistan that some would act like this in the heat of the moment after the attack.   However, to then make moral equivalence of a terrorist group that targets minority faiths for suicide bombings among other things, and a whole community of millions and millions for the acts of a few, including the non-violent act of burning a nations flag shows a extremely morally perverted view of reality that is concerning.  If this poster really does represent Anonymous, then the group is essentially acting as a proxy for Muslim terrorist groups, and given that Anonymous protests have featured the burning of other nations flags, it shows high hypocrisy and severe incoherence to target millions of people online for the actions of a few acting under extreme circumstances’.

BPCA has contacted the police about the posts.  The post encouraged hackers everywhere not only to attack the social media and websites of the Taliban linked group MQM, and those of the Pakistani Christian community as a whole, claiming that Anonymous is Pakistani Christians ‘worst nightmare’ and that Anonymous will hunt Pakistani Christians down globally, claiming ‘JUSTICE IS COMING’

Notes to Editors.

The British Pakistani Christian Association is an NGO that works for the rights of minorities in Pakistan, but particularly those of Christians who face extreme persecution.  Pakistan is ranked 8th worst in the world for the persecution of Christians.
