A 45-year-old Pakistani Christian man residing in Derby had to be taken to hospital after being assaulted outside a popular restaurant t 8.30 pm on Friday

Tajamal Amar a food delivery driver suffered a broken nose and several lacerations to his head and body after a group of Muslim men attacked without
warning.
Mr Amar was rendered unconscious and woke approximately 6 hours later at Royal Derby Hospital where he was admitted overnight, after having been transported
there by emergency services.

A local police spokesman said: “We were called to a report of an assault outside the Red Chilli restaurant, in Littleover, at around 8:45 pm on Friday.
“It was reported that a 45-year-old man had been kicked and punched.
“He was hospitalised at the Royal Derby Hospital with a broken nose and we have not yet arrested anyone in connection with the assault.”
Mr Amar, remembers being stared at by a group of Muslim men who seemed to be taking offence at the cross in his vehicle and the two large poppies
that were displayed on the front of his car.
After this Mr Amar is not very clear on what happened but he seems to have been hit on top of the head and then suffered further violence as he lay
on the floor unconscious.
He cannot specifically describe any of the attackers and police are seeking witnesses who saw the attack, which happened outside a very popular restaurant
during peak hours on a Friday night.

Mr Amar, said;
“Several times local Pakistani people in Derby have taken offence from the fact that I am Christian, when they first find out many stop talking to me. My wife and I have often been shunned.
“On the day of my attack the visible display of a cross in my car and two poppies just below the front bonnet, triggered the violence against me. I know this, because for a few days before the attack the same men, glared at me after they noticed my Christian paraphernalia.
“I fled from Pakistan to escape violence such as this, but more and more the same violence is coming into Britain.
“Freedom of religion should be the right of any British citizen but today I feel unsafe, even then nothing will stop me going to church.
“I will pray for my attackers and hope they will change their hard-line approach to faith which is very dangerous for our society.”
Wilson Chowdhry, Chairman of the British Pakistani Christian Association, said:
“This unprovoked attack on a Christian for simply displaying a cross and two large poppies is an example of the religious intolerance that some strands of radical Islam promote in Britain.
“An innocent man has been hospitalized, he has had to take several days off work, and now he is living in fear of further reprisals, simply for adhering to the Christian faith.
This incident is very similar in tone to the attack on Nissar Hussain, who in 2016 had to be protected by a 16 man police escort when retrieving a box of furniture from his former home in Bradford (click here) . Earlier in 2016 local police gave Nissar two weeks to leave his home of 8 years after stating that they could not provide adequate protection to him, because of the heightened threat to his life. BPCA helped Nissar Hussain move to a safe location far away from Bradford where he was being trageted.
Now Tajamal wants to leave the city of Derby where he no longer feels safe. He originally left Pakistan after being shot in 2007 by Muslims who
were enraged by his refusal to convert to Islam.
This is not the first attack on a Christian by a Muslim offended by the Christian cross. On the 10th April 2017 the Daily telegraph in Sydney reported on a gang of incensed Muslim men and women who rampaged through a train attacking innocent passengers wearing a cross and those they identified as Christian. A warning was sent out by the police and Australian Government calling for people not to wear crosses because of the offence it was causing to Muslims (click here).
This attack is not the first time that Muslims have been known to be offended by poppies. Every year a Muslim group protests on armistice day with their ‘Hell for Heroes’ campaign during which they are known to burn poppies a crime that triggers a paltry £50 fine despite the anguish and offence it causes to law-biding people of conscious. The Daily Mail reported on one of these Muslim events in 2011 (click here).
These attacks are not exclusively targeting Christians a report of similar attacks on the Sikh community of Derby as early as 2001 (click here) . BPCA are speaking with Sikh leaders who confirm that attacks by Muslim gangs on Sikhs have continued.
Sikhs are instantly recognizable because of the religious paraphernalia they have to wear as part of the adherence to their faith. These gangs look
for the vulnerable minorities they can attack without too much fear of community retribution. Such zealots believe that they can convert people of
other faith through fear and intimidation and their numbers are growimg as more Muslims in the UK become radicalized.
Wilson Chowdhry, also said:
“For many disenfranchised (not only economically) Muslims it is easy to blame western culture for their demise, rather then personal choices. Some of them cling to the Quran more during periods of soul-searching as they seek an exit from their status quo, unfortunately this often builds a stronger disconnect with the west.
“Those who become seriously radicalized would previously have joined IS seeking the honour of fighting for a warped sense of justice and truth in an area where western corruption and influence has had little impact (click here). However the defeat of IS now means that ‘holy war’ has now come to our shores.
BPCA is not surprised that terror attacks have increased in the west we warned of the changing trajectory of Jihad in previous posts. Besides t he call for ‘lone wolf attacks’ from Al Queda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri (click here) , and IS Leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi (click here) have contributed to this. However, I don’t believe western police are ready for the heightened threat they face.
“It’s not just terrorism which has increased but a growing plethora of community attacks on identifiable non-Muslims. This is an alarming change that has to be addressed by British authorities immediately.”
Mr Chowdhry, added:
“How many people will have to flee areas where they no longer are safe just because of an adherence to a faith outside the norm for the location. In a democratic country this simply should not be happening.
“Let’s think about the implication of flight – if this social malaise continues one day there will be nowhere else to run. Put simply Britain has to find a solution that allows all people to live in harmony without any fear or trepidation.”
“Like most countries in the west the UK has signed the UN Convention for Human Rights, Article 18 stipulates the necessity to preserve religious freedom, I hope something is done to prevent victims such as Tajamal and Nissar from losing the freedom to adhere to a faith of their choice in their community.”
We have been informed by Mr Amar that police have warned his family that they should relocate for their safety. The family is being protected by patrols around their home, while an investigation takes place.
British Pakistani Christian Association is trying to source a safe location to move Tajamal Amar, his wife and child too – they now want to move to an area were few Muslims live terrified of what could happen to them simply for adhering to their Christian faith.
