School’s in for summer!

I am excited to bring this update to you about the school that we are initiating in Thailand. For many weeks we have been discussing and making plans and it seems things are now rapidly progressing. I, Christian Malik lead officer for the BPCA in Thailand, have been overseeing the project and sent these images of the hired hall as it develops into the proposed classroom area.  It will not be a huge school but will still serve fifty or more needy children and adults and we are very grateful to God for the opportunity to serve and bless them.

The centre will contain five working laptops, a series of educational books, and will be equipped with chairs and tables.  More importantly this project is extremely sustainable as the teachers are all experienced staff who formerly worked in educational establishments across Pakistan.  They have agreed to volunteer their time to help the children of families seeking refuge in Thailand while they await their resettlement in nations who have signed UN conventions for asylum.

The centre will also be providing learning for adults to enable them to operate new businesses and advice will be given on how to initiate.  Priority for this training will be given to refugees who have been given resettlement dates for named countries.  We also hope that the centre will become a bible study and outreach centre, especially as many Muslims are turning to Christ having seen how Christian churches and groups are providing assistance. For example, as a result of campaigning by Christian groups a new protocol exists for those arrested by the IDC.  Victims are able to pay a fine of 50,000 baht and in the process attain an automatic pardon for two years, which allows them a 2 year period free from rearrest if they are again questioned by the Thai authorities.

This school will be a ground-breaking centre, due to the low revenue costs and empowerment given to local people.  By law they cannot work but can continue to hone their employment skills via volunteering roles, which will enable them to develop the next generation of Pak-Christians which is great incentive.

The project is funded to run for one year and we are desperately seeking donors to help us continue after this period.

Chairman of the BPCA, Wilson Chowdhry, said:

“This school  will be a testament in time of the love God has for his people and is the product of the love of many prayerful donors.  The school now will ensure our next generation of Pak-Christians get what they need to drag themselves out of the mire that extremists designed for them.  As these students leave and enter into foreign nations they will be equipped with the skills to succeed.  Hopefully they will remember their early plight and the help given to them, meaning they will become the benefactors for future generations of deprived, persecuted and oppressed Pak-Christians.”

Please Pray:

For the school to be funded and staffed well past the intial year that we have planned for.

That God will sustain and bless the volunteer teaching staff who are willing to give of their time and expertise to the children.

That the families seeking asylum will have enough money for food, clothing and shelter and the children can come and learn in safety with no distractions.

For asylum applications to be processed and for refugees to be able to resettle to other countries much more quickly.

For the Thai authorities to recognise Pak-Christians as asylum seekers and stop imprisoning and detaining them.

That refugee and asylum families could draw near to the Lord and one another for comfort and would not despair.

Please will you help us to ease the burdens of these refugees and asylum seekers in Thailand?  Your gift really can make a difference.
