Leighton Medley our BPCA Outreach Minister has returned to Pakistan to reach new communities with the true Gospel of Christ and to continue discipling those who have been already been reached through our previous campaigns. Leighton’s remit for this work is quite simple, he is to bolster the faith of Christians who have little access to regular church services setting up bible study leaders who will one day become ministers of the Gospel in rural communities, he is to bring revival and better understanding to Christian churches in Pakistan many of which have adopted a very legalistic theology and have forgotten the need for repentance, faith in Christ and the need to place our trust in Him. Leighton has also been reaching out to Muslims and we hope that soon his work will provide a dividend by bringing others to the family of God.
He has been having great success with many believers expressing revival, churchgoers committing their lives to Christ, and Muslims taking an interest in the Gospel though yet to commit to Christ. We hope with further donations to make Leighton’s role a permanent one in two years time. For this we will need the help and support of those who was to see Christ’s gospel flourishing in Pakistan and seek you help to finance this important ministry. Below is one of Leighton’s recent accounts during BPCA’s first ever Baptism service:
What can i say, what a day of joyous celebration, we had no fewer than 9 people who came forward for baptism this day. Four women and Five men, yes,extraordinary,
the men actually out numbered the women for a change, that`s the first time I`ve ever known that before. What is incredible about the men in particular,
is that three of them came from very broken backgrounds, and were held in bondage through various addictions, such as alcohol and drugs. Our God does
do miracles in salvation, when he convicts people of their sin, through the preaching of the Word and the conviction of the Holy Spirit.
I preached from Isaiah 55, the first 5 verses, where the emphasis was on the great invitation, and the question why people often look for sources of
happiness in the wrong places, seeking fulfillment from materialism and wealth, and not what God can give us. What could be better than eternal life
in heaven worshiping our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. There are 3 questions i ask in this seminar, firstly, who is invited, which is all who are
elected through God`s grace. Secondly, what must they do, well of course they must accept the invitation, like saying i do in a marriage ceremony.
Thirdly, what can we expect from our invitation, that being the best and only the best, nothing less from God will do.
We took Holy Communion after the sermon, just before the Baptism service, and not even the sound of a Minaret, from the local Mosque, could drown out
the shouts of praise and joy as we baptised these new believers. Let us Pray for these baby Christians,that their walk with God, although faced with
heavy trials to come no doubt, will lead them to greater holiness and humility. God is doing an amazing work here,and my prayer is that it may long
continue in His name, the mighty Lord Jesus.
