Leighton Medley our BPCA Outreach Minister has returned to Pakistan to reach new communities with the true Gospel of Christ and to continue discipling those who have been already been reached through our previous campaigns.
Leighton’s remit for this work is quite simple, he is to bolster the faith of Christians who have little access to regular church services setting up bible study leaders who will one day become ministers of the Gospel in rural communities, he is to bring revival and better understanding to larger Christian churches in Pakistan many of which have adopted a very legalistic theology and have forgotten the need for repentance, faith in Christ and the need to place our trust in Him.
Leighton has also been reaching out to Muslims and we hope that soon his work will provide a dividend by bringing others to the family of God.
He has been having great success with many believers expressing revival, churchgoers committing their lives to Christ, and Muslims taking an interest in the Gospel though yet to commit to Christ. We hope with further donations to make Leighton’s role a permanent one in a years time. Below is one of Leighton’s recent accounts during a BPCA’s trip to Sangla Hill on 7th February 2020:
On the 7th February, we visited Khaliq Nagar, a small, very poor Christian community on the outskirts of Lahore. We have been asked, to visit a school
there we are helping to support, which has been set up there to give free education to those who cannot afford it. The person in charge of the school,
is one Patras Boota; this school is for children of all ages, and there are several teachers assigned to the children, teaching everything from Urdu
to English and Mathematics.
Make no mistake, as with Clarkabad, these people are among the poorest in Pakistan. Khaliq Nagar is a slum area, not unlike Essa Nagri in Karachi,
or Asif Town, another slum in the centre of Lahore. It is no exaggeration to say, the excitement on these children’s faces is a joy to behold, when
somebody from the West takes the time to visit them. As usual, the children are poorly dressed, therefore I am asking any readers of this article,
whether they could help with the giving of any unwanted children’s clothes, so we can send them to these areas, as many of these children are suffering

I am asked to share a simple Christian message with the children and adults dependent on their ability. Therefore, we read Acts 2:36-41 and just talk
about what a Christian really is. There are key points in this portion of Scripture, that tell us what a Christian is and how our lives should reflect
that:
First, we should know Christ, I mean really know him.
Secondly, we need to repent daily in our walk with him, removing those things that cause us so easily to fall away.We are chosen by God also to be
Holy, to be a royal priesthood as written in 1 Peter 2:9, a special possession to serve God and our communities.
Therefore, through our words and our actions, we proclaim the Good news of our saviour. As James wrote in 1:17 of his epistle, faith without works
is dead. As we belong to God, we also belong to each other and as we all have different gifts, we should using our gifts together, for the building
of the kingdom and society.
To be honest, the work to be done here is endless, and we have barely scratched the surface. It is only because of the selfless sacrifice of others,
that the children here can even have a chance. Education, good education costs a lot in Pakistan, which is why there is such a huge gap between the
rich and poor. The Bible promotes us sharing our wealth, to help those who are disadvantaged. This is not the Social Gospel, it is what we are commanded
to do. My prayer therefore, is that we would recognise just how lucky we are in the west, so we would be pricked in our hearts just to give a little,
as every little helps. We don’t know if any of these children may go on to become pioneers in science, or IT, but they will never achieve anything
if we stand by and do nothing. Let us turn these children together from “Zero to Hero”, and remember God’s love for them.
