Leighton Medley our BPCA Outreach Minister has returned to Pakistan to reach new communities with the true Gospel of Christ and to continue the discipling
those who have been already been reached through our previous campaigns. Leighton’s remit for this work is quite simple, he is to bolster the faith
of Christians who have little access to regular church services setting up bible study leaders who will one day become ministers of the Gospel in rural
communities, he is to bring revival and better understanding to Christian churches in Pakistan many of which have adopted a very legalistic theology
and have forgotten the need for repentance, faith in Christ and the need to place our trust in Him. Leighton has also been reaching out to Muslims
and we hope that soon his work will provide a dividend by bringing others to the family of God.
He has been having great success with many believers expressing revival, churchgoers committing their lives to Christ, and Muslims taking an interest in the Gospel though yet to commit to Christ. We hope with further donations to make Leighton’s role a permanent one in two years time. For this we will need the help and support of those who was to see Christ’s gospel flourishing in Pakistan and seek you help to finance this important ministry. Below is one of Leighton’s recent accounts of a trip to Sandha Pathak, Kasur (near Lahore):
“On the 6th November, a Monday we returned to an old haunt from yesteryear, that being Sanda Phatak. Once we reached there, I couldn’t help but recognise
some of the faces that I had seen there last year. The local Pastor did his homework, because more people came this time and the atmosphere was joyful
in anticipation of what we would give them.
“We encouraged them to sing louder, to really show their praise and love for God and they did, especially the children who really went for it.
That’s what these people really need, food from the Word of God and it is a privilege to give it to them. You see, people in the West have television
and radio, they take all this stuff for granted, whereas these people have nothing like that, so they rely on their Pastors or Missionaries to feed
them. But I think that gives them an advantage in a sense, they appreciate the small things, they have community, while in the West we are losing because
of too much television and social media.
“We preached on the marriage feast from Matthew 22, where we talked about accepting the invitation and not giving excuses when all you have to do is
accept. I also stated that status alone will not guarantee you a place in heaven, we cannot as many do today, wear the Christian identity badge and
expect to be at the banquet table in heaven. It simply does not work that way.
Miss Grace did an excellent job translating and they not only understood the message, but really enjoyed it as well. We had a good rapport with them,
as we conducted them singing the final Psalm.
All throughout the atmosphere was good humoured and joyful, we had a good time of fellowship with them as we ate our food and I prayed over some of
the people. This was a good meeting and shows progress is being made in these rural communities as to their knowledge of God and wanting more. Our
attitude should be one of divine discontent, we should never be satisfied with God, we should want more always, just as He, always more from us. That’s
relationship, that’s community, that’s heaven folks.
