This is an Image of Shahzad being lifted from a Police cell.  Despite the obvious wounds Pakistan’s Police have not made arrests on any Police Officer to date as they await autopsy reports.

A thirty-five-year-old Christian man , Allah Rakha Shahzad, died on Saturday morning, allegedly after being tortured by police officials at
Green Town police station, Lahore.

Shahzad- also known as Mithu- was arrested by police on Friday night after which an FIR was filed against him. Shahzad was in custody for selling alcohol and drugs.

Police officials have indicated that the death was due to a heart attack.  However, the family of Shahzad are alleging the death was caused by police torture.

A protest led by the family of Shahzad took place outside Green Town police station it has been alleged that stones were thrown in the direction of the police station and that tyres were burnt and blocked the road outside the police station, mixed with poles and broken glass.  It has also been alleged that family members tried to forcibly enter the Police station.

After the protest and increased public scrutiny a First Incident Report (FIR) was  registered against investigation officer (IO) ASI Rauf and three constables whose names have not been revealed.

Angry protesters also burned tyres and broke glass with sticks, managing to block the road outside the police station.

The dead body of Shahzad has been moved to Munshi Hospital and will undergo post-mortem examination.  A senior Police officer told the family of Shahzad that, if it is found that there is any malpractice or improper behaviour the accused Police Officers will be arrested.

Wilson Chowdhry, Chairman of the BPCA, said;

“Despite signing the ‘United Nations Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment’ on 17th April 2008, which they ratified 3rd June 2010, Pakistan Continues to illustrate non-compliance.  The murder of Robert Danish (15.09.09) and Sabir Masih (25.12.14) two Christian martyrs highlighted the malaise, yet despite promises from Pakistan authorities of impending
police reform, the situation seems to have exacerbated.  To Pakistani Christians the United Nations seem to be failing in their primary goal, initially created to prevent another conflict like the Second World War, there ineffectiveness has led to global communities taking sides in the conflicts affecting the Islamic World.”

He added;

“Christians across the world are now being killed at a rate of 1 per minute.  London’s Metro who have been reporting on British Jihadists who have joined the forces of IS. Britain has not legislated strongly enough against these warmongers who are a threat to the UK and should never be allowed to return.
However, news that two men and a Yazidi girl have joined the forces combating IS, sets a new precedent. It clearly defines a growing societal split based on creeping extremism within adherents to Islam.  This bodes ill for cohesion across the globe and failure to react by western governments and the UN is creating fear and animosity within our previously harmonious communities.”
