During a visit to Sri Lanka BPCA Chairman Wilson Chowdhry met with the Deputy High Commissioner and Community welfare officer at the Pakistan Embassy
in Colombo. A delegation led by Mr Chowdhry was advised that the Embassy in  Colombo would be able to provide help in some cases for Pakistani
Christian asylum seekers.  They explained despite the torrid situation for Christians in Pakistan that the Government was doing their best to
eradicate the extremism within their nation. They agreed o maintain contact with the BPCA who would act as a link between the Pak-Christian community
and the Embassy.  So it was no surprise when our Officer Tassawar Khan was invited to attend their second “Pakistan Single Country Exhibition”
at BMICH Colombo Srilanka on 13th January 2017.

The two basic themes of this exhibition were to build up exclusive business relations between Sri Lanka and Pakistan and many products were showcased
such as; sports equipment, vehichle tools, handicrafts, clothes, furniture, marble, carpets, cosmetics, medicines, basmati rice etc.

Several prominent guests were invited to the event and shared small adrresses to hundreds of visitors, this included:

Sri Lanakan Minister for Parlimentary Reforms and Mass Media, Mr Gayantha Karunathilaka
Sri Lankan Minister for Sports, Dayasiri Jayasekara
Pakistani High Commissioner, Major General Syed Shakeel Hussain
Pakistani Chief Executive of Trade Development Authority, Mr Munir

Although most of the visitors were businessmen or diplomatic officers the High Commissioner met with our officer Tassawar accompanied by Counseller
Mr Anjum Farooq who is a Community Welfare Officer. Tussawar presented flowers to the High Commissioner an expressed solidarity from the Pakistani
Christian community.  Tussawar, said:

“Meeting the High Commissioner and other delegates on an equal footing was a new experience for me.

“In Pakistan opportunities such as this would have been beyond me.  I hope that one day Pakistan becomes a safe nation for me to return to – one in which all people are accepted as equals.

“I continue to pray for the nation which was and always will be in my heart despite my having to flee the country for my safety.  It is the land of my ancestors and I hope one day Pakistani Christians will be free of their current persecution in our homeland.”
