At the end of this week, British Pakistani Christian Association (BPCA) chairman Wilson Chowdhry is travelling to Thailand to meet with the massively
suffering, oppressed and impoverished Christian refugees and asylum seekers there.
He will also meet with the churches and Christian aid groups that are desperately trying to help them, with very limited resources. BPCA has collaborated
with another NGO that helps persecuted Christians and we have produced a video to highlight the desperate situation of such refugees.
The video focuses on the plight of Asia Bibi – not the one on death row for ‘blasphemy’ – but another Asia Bibi who had to flee Pakistan after Islamists
beat her up and threatened to kill her and her children.
She was running a clinic that issued birth control and the Islamists accused her of working to ‘harm and reduce the Muslim population’.

Chowdhry said:
“The groups like the Jesuits who are helping openly admit their help is a drop in the ocean. Thailand hasn’t signed the UNHCR convention on asylum seekers, so even if the UN grants refugee status, no aid is forthcoming, and in fact, the Thai state seems to do everything within its power to hinder the refugees from Pakistan. Christians are liable to illegal arrest and deportation back to Pakistan. They are starved of money, medicine and support. In one case, a Christian man approached a local health centre wanting to sell his kidney to raise funds for medical treatment for his sick daughter.”
Thailand refuses to grant asylum status to many who are declared genuine refugees by the UN, and Christian women are afraid to go out to shop for
basics for fear of illegal detention. This is the side of Thailand that Western tourists never see.
Chowdhry added:
“We have the funds for my visit, and a couple of hundred pounds to give, but the people need so much more. Our goal is to raise £10,000 to help in essential aid for these suffering saints. They need food, medicine, clothing, the things that we so take for granted. There are hundreds, if not thousands in dire need in Thailand. We have already made an appeal, and thanks to those who have given, but we have very little funds despite a huge following for our group. I don’t want to go to Thailand with just such a pittance in hand. That would be an insult. I urge Christians to remember Jesus’ words in Matthew 25 that on the last day, judgement is based on what people do for the poor and suffering, and especially those who are brothers and sisters. You might not be able to visit the imprisoned or clothe the naked or feed the hungry directly, but you can aid us to do so.”

For peace and a better quality of life
For children to have access to education
For healthcare to be available
For Thai authorities to properly recognise the status of Pakistani Christian asylum seekers
