Urgent: Pakistani Christians in Thailand Need Our Help Now

Local church distributes food to Pakistani Christians who have nothing

I remember once when I was a child I stayed up after my parents had gone to sleep, and I decided this would be the perfect time to watch Channel 4
and see one of their horror features. I won’t share all the details, and it involved a gruesome demon, but I remember after watching that film the
journey upstairs was a long and very lonely one! every creep of the stairs I heard, every sound that seemed slightly out of place had my heart fighting
against my rib cage.  My brain was trying to make sense of these strange noises while at the same time scolding me for even having the audacity
to watch the film. This moment of terror lasted for at least a month and every time it got dark , I became acutely aware of just how dark the dark
can be.

So why am I bringing up childhood memories? The fear I felt was merely coming from my imagination, a perceived threat, but envisage for a moment having
these thoughts and feelings for real. Imagine having to live in a darkened cupboard, along with your family, in complete silence for days on end. Living
with the stress of being on constant edge, poised for fight or flight. The ‘bogey man’ in this scenario is not a figment of your imagination but a
real person with real authority to make your life a nightmare. This is the reality facing Pakistani Christians in Thailand today. Even though they
escaped from the harsh realities of being a Christian in Pakistan, their situation has gone from bad to worse. Fleeing to Thailand seeking a better
future for themselves and their families, but instead they are faced with a society that refuses to accept or help them.  A society where Pakistani
Christians are not viewed as legitimate asylum seekers and are hunted down as prey and held in rusty shackles. A society that forces them to walk around
in near nakedness! It is 2015 but in some societies the concept of having love for their fellow man, a concept that our Saviour Jesus preached throughout
his life, is something that so many have failed to grasp.

As human beings it’s sometimes too easy for us to focus on the worst in people especially during times of extreme poverty and hardship. Each day my
inbox is filled with the awful news of extreme persecution of Christian minorities, not only in my homeland of Pakistan, but around the world. The
price of following Christ is beatings, torture, rape and other atrocities. In so much as I see the awful side of humanity, far more frequently I see
people who want to help bring change and to do good.

So with this in mind, I ask for your help in being the solid rock that Pakistani Christians in Thailand can lean on. I will be in Thailand on Sunday
and I’m determined to help in any way I can but at present all I have to give them is £338.

My aim is to raise £10,000 and I know that with your help we can start to write the happy ending to their daily horror story.

We have over 14,000 members in BPCA so I’m asking each member to donate just £1, more if you can. That way we will easily reach our target of £10,000.
