Young Pakistani Christian school girl awarded for her work in the community. Naomi Chowdhry dedicates 3 hours a week to help with the British Asian Christian Association, Meals for the Homeless Project. Naomi Chowdhry finally received her Jack Petchey Award which she had won in 2021.  Due to COVID-19 concerns ceremonies were not held by all schools last year. The UK government hosted a human rights conference to urge increased global action on Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB) for all on 5th July.  Read More (here). The conference brought together governments, parliamentarians, faith and belief representatives, and civil society. National governments represented at the conference were invited to co-sign 1 or more of a set of written statements. The set includes an overarching statement on the conference itself and thematic statements covering freedom of religion or belief issues. After a Christian House Church was heckled and then attacked by members of a Hindu Nationalist Youth Movement on 3rd March 2022, BACA stepped in to help. Though the attack was instigated by the Hindu Youth, police arrested 4 men and 2 women from the church only.  They charged them with running a lottery, forced conversions and causing religious hurt.  This is despite a paucity of evidence. Aleeza Masih (5 yrs) was only 1.5 years old when she survived the brutal terrorist attack on Quetta Church on 17th December 2017, (click here). The attack on Bethel Memorial Methodist Church during a Nativity service, killed 9 people and would have been worse had it not been for the bravery of volunteer Christian security officers (click here). Aleeza Masih lost her right leg and bowels after a large piece of shrapnel embedded itself in her limb. A Christian woman was raped by her Muslim employer, who sent for her to go to his private quarters at the end of her work shift. After the ordeal the woman’s family still reeling from news of the sexual assault, were met by an armed gang at their home the following morning demanding they all go back to work. Rimsha Riaz (18 yrs) was employed in a glass crushing company alongside members of her family all of whom were hard-working loyal employees for Haji Ali Akbar, a successful Muslim businessman. The home of Pakistan’s most famous orphans has had a facelift and two new ceiling fans installed. BACA has also replaced items of kitchenware that had been stolen while they were visiting distant relatives. There are several thousand Pak-Christian asylum seekers in Thailand all of whom are treated as illegal immigrants, even though a large percentage have either UNHCR registration as an official asylum seeker or refugee. This forces them to work cash in hand jobs for a pittance under extremely difficult and unsafe circumstances.  Last year a Pak-Christian father died after a fall from a high ladder and was entitled to no compensation, even worse the business that hired him was not punished.  Babar Ishaq left behind a large family with a severely mentally-impaired child – they are one of our beneficiaries.  Read more (here)…

When Russia shocked the world by initiating a war with Ukraine (click here). British Asian Christian Association’s trustees agreed to find ways to support both people fleeing the war and those choosing to stay in Ukraine. Our work towards this grows in strength and we gave the finance required to start a food programme for  many Odessan’s choosing to stay in Ukraine.  Already our partners led by Pastor Vasilev have begun to share bags of food and Bibles with desperate people. Badil Masih (10yrs) was sodomised and murdered by his employer Mr Mohammed Ikram and a cohort, in July 2019, for daring to seek full payment for work he had carried out at a scrapyard (click here).
