The UK government hosted a human rights conference to urge increased global action on Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB) for all on 5th July. Read More (here). The conference brought together governments, parliamentarians, faith and belief representatives, and civil society. National governments represented at the conference were invited to co-sign 1 or more of a set of written statements. After a Christian House Church was heckled and then attacked by members of a Hindu Nationalist Youth Movement on 3rd March 2022, BACA stepped in to help. Though the attack was instigated by the Hindu Youth, police arrested 4 men and 2 women from the church only. They charged them with running a lottery, forced conversions and causing religious hurt. Aleeza Masih (5 yrs) was only 1.5 years old when she survived the brutal terrorist attack on Quetta Church on 17th December 2017, (click here). The attack on Bethel Memorial Methodist Church during a Nativity service, killed 9 people and would have been worse had it not been for the bravery of volunteer Christian security officers (click here). A Christian woman was raped by her Muslim employer, who sent for her to go to his private quarters at the end of her work shift. After the ordeal the woman’s family still reeling from news of the sexual assault, were met by an armed gang at their home the following morning demanding they all go back to work. There are several thousand Pak-Christian asylum seekers in Thailand all of whom are treated as illegal immigrants, even though a large percentage have either UNHCR registration as an official asylum seeker or refugee. This forces them to work cash in hand jobs for a pittance under extremely difficult and unsafe circumstances. Last year a Pak-Christian father died after a fall from a high ladder and was entitled to no compensation, even worse the business that hired him was not punished. When Russia shocked the world by initiating a war with Ukraine (click here). British Asian Christian Association’s trustees agreed to find ways to support both people fleeing the war and those choosing to stay in Ukraine. Our work towards this grows in strength and we gave the finance required to start a food programme for many Odessan’s choosing to stay in Ukraine.
