The River Sutlej’s devastating floods left 72 villages in Kasur under water, with many families stranded for weeks.
In Bhikiwind, 20 Christian families were trapped for over 10 days, running out of food and essentials.
BACA’s team braved dangerous floodwaters by boat to deliver flour, food packs, and clean water.
Now, these families urgently need gas cylinders to cook their meals and survive until the floods recede.
By late August 2025, the River Sutlej had risen to dangerously high levels, wreaking havoc across 72 villages in Kasur, Punjab. Homes were engulfed by floodwaters, farmland was destroyed, and entire families were forced to flee. While government relief camps were established nearby, many families—both Christian and Muslim—refused to abandon their homes and land, believing the floods would subside within days.
Instead, the water remained for weeks, leaving hundreds trapped in Bhikiwind village. By the time the BACA flood relief team arrived on 5th September, many families had been cut off for over 10 days, with little to no food left.

A Risky Journey Through Violent Waters
The mission was anything but simple. To reach Bhikiwind, the BACA team had to wait hours at Talwar Post before being transported by a Rescue 1122 motorboat through the raging Sutlej waters. As dusk approached, the risks of navigating the flood zone grew higher.
Guided by Khalid Masih, a local Christian, the team anchored near a church and called families to gather at a nearby house where relief could be safely distributed. Despite the danger, the team pressed on—driven by compassion for the stranded families.

Food and Relief Reached the Forgotten
BACA distributed flour bags and emergency food packs containing lentils, roasted grams, sugar, milk, tea, soap, toothpaste, and toothbrushes—essentials that will help families survive through these desperate days.
The joy and relief were visible as families received their packages. For many, this was the first external help since the floodwaters swept into their homes.

“I am thankful to BACA for reaching us and helping with food we badly needed during this terrible flood,” said Khalid Masih (36), a resident of Bhikiwind.
“But we also need gas cylinders urgently. The firewood has been washed away, and without gas we cannot cook food for our children.”Juliet Chowdhry, Trustee of the British Asian Christian Association:
“The families of Bhikiwind have endured unimaginable hardship, cut off by floodwaters for weeks without food or safe shelter. Our team risked dangerous waters to reach them because no one should be left abandoned in their time of greatest need. We now urgently need support to provide gas cylinders so these families can cook and feed their children. Together, we can help restore dignity and hope.”
An Urgent Appeal for Cooking Gas
Right now, many families have food—but no way to cook it.
Without gas or firewood, they’re unable to prepare even the most basic meals. We urgently need your help to provide 20 gas cylinder sets—each including a regulator, pipe, and 2kg of LPG—to restore this essential lifeline.
💰 Cost per Gas Cylinder Set: £30
🎯 Total Needed: 20 Sets = £600
This small investment can make a life-changing difference, giving families the means to prepare food, maintain their dignity, and survive through this crisis.
Additional costs such as transport will apply, so please give whatever you can—and just as importantly, share this appeal to help us reach more people.
🙏 Your support can bring immediate relief. Let’s help these families cook again.
