At the British Asian Christian Association (BACA), we continue to tell the stories of persecuted Christians in Pakistan — stories of deep injustice, resilience, and unyielding faith. We have stood alongside families shattered by the wrongful imprisonment of believers like Zafar Bhatti, mourned the brutal murder of Suleman Masih — a young Christian betrayed and dismembered by a Muslim friend — and provided legal aid and trauma care to many more whose only crime is their Christian identity.
Today, we share an urgent and heartbreaking update on Nabeel Masih, a young Christian man whose life is once again hanging by a thread.
Nabeel Masih was only 16 when he became the youngest person ever imprisoned for blasphemy in Pakistan — falsely accused of “liking” a Facebook post deemed insulting to Islam. He spent nearly four years behind bars in brutal conditions, during which his physical and mental health sharply declined. Since his release on bail, BACA has supported him through an ongoing and disheartening legal battle for acquittal, as well as multiple serious health crises. Now, Nabeel is once again fighting for his life.
A Life Hanging by a Thread: Nabeel’s Condition Reaches Final Stage
Nabeel Masih, just 22 years old, is fighting for his life after being admitted to the ICU for a second time. His already fragile health, deteriorated by years of wrongful imprisonment for alleged blasphemy, has now reached its most critical stage. Despite earlier signs of recovery, he has taken a turn for the worse — and is now unconscious and on a ventilator.
On 19th July, Nabeel was rushed to hospital after his father, Amanat Masih, alerted the BACA team to his declining condition. He was admitted and monitored, but his health collapsed again on 20th July, prompting an emergency shift to the ICU. He remained there for six days, and then appeared to recover enough to be transferred to the general ward.
Sadly, on 27th July, doctors diagnosed him with Ascites, a severe complication of liver failure that leads to fluid build-up in the abdominal cavity. Treatment options were limited and risky. Draining the fluid manually was considered dangerous, so the medical team prescribed three doses of Albumin 20, necessary to stabilise his blood pressure and reduce the risk of internal bleeding.
On 29th July, Nabeel lost consciousness once more, and was transferred back to the ICU.
Then, the most devastating update came.

Placed on Ventilator – Doctors Say Only a Miracle Can Save Him
At 10:30 am on 30th July, despite aggressive medication and an additional dose of Albumin injection, Nabeel’s condition worsened again. The doctors made the critical decision to place him on a ventilator. He remains unconscious, and is being kept alive with life support. His medications continue, as do tests, but the outlook is dire.
This is the final stage of Nabeel’s fight — a point where only divine intervention can turn the tide.
His father, Amanat Masih, has made an emotional appeal to the international Christian community:
“I request you all to pray for my son like you did last time. All I want is my son’s recovery to health.”
Juliet Chowdhry, Trustee of the British Asian Christian Association, said:
“Nabeel’s life has been marked by deep injustice and now unrelenting physical suffering. We are devastated to see him at death’s door. His only crime was being born a Christian in a nation that sees our faith as a threat. Please join us in urgent prayer — and if you can, help us cover his treatment costs. Time is critical.”
URGENT APPEAL: A Liver Transplant Could Save Nabeel’s Life
Doctors have made it clear that a liver transplant is the only way to save Nabeel’s life. The estimated cost of such a procedure in Pakistan ranges between £5,000 and £6,000 — a sum far beyond the means of Nabeel’s impoverished family.
Before this operation can even be considered, Nabeel’s condition must first be stabilised. Right now, the medical team is doing everything possible to bring his body to a state where surgery is feasible. Until then, he remains heavily reliant on life support.
Meanwhile, family members are urgently discussing who may be a suitable liver donor, but no transplant can be scheduled until the doctors confirm he is strong enough to survive the operation.
Every hour counts. We are appealing to our supporters around the world to come together in prayer — and to help raise the funds needed to prepare for this life-saving procedure.
