The British Asian Christian Association (BACA) is pleased to share the completion of a vital project that has significantly improved the lives of a neglected Christian and Hindu community in Sindh, Pakistan.
Alam Choudhary is a small village on the outskirts of Sanghar city, home to a tightly knit group of Christian and Hindu families. These residents, most of whom are daily wage labourers working on the farms of local Muslim landlords, have long struggled with basic sanitation and water access.
In June, BACA was approached by Evangelist Daniyal Masih—our dedicated volunteer in the region—who relayed an urgent request from the community. Mitho Masih, a local Christian farm worker, shared the harsh realities they faced due to the absence of a clean water source and a functioning washroom. The burden of fetching water fell primarily on women, who had to trek across dangerous, isolated fields to reach a lone water pump near a graveyard. The journey not only exhausted them physically but also exposed them to stray dogs, insects, and other threats.
Even more concerning was the absence of a washroom in the village. The entire community was forced to defecate in open fields, and for safety, women and children had to travel in groups—especially troubling given the risks posed by remote cotton and sugarcane farms.
Moved by their plea, BACA acted promptly. On 12th June, a hand pump was installed in the heart of the village, granting families direct access to clean water for the first time (click here).
Building on this success, on 16th July, BACA completed the construction of a double washroom unit in Alam Choudhary village. This essential facility now allows residents—particularly women and children—to relieve themselves in privacy and safety. It represents a meaningful step towards improved hygiene and dignity, and provides peace of mind to working fathers who previously worried about the vulnerability of their families during the day.
Mitho Masih expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the village:
